On 7 July 2013, Indore Crime Branch arrested 20 people who had come to write the MP Pre-Medical Test for others — the interception that opened the entire Vyapam investigation. The STF's chargesheets mapped a system of impersonators, 'engine-bogie' seat allocation and score rigging run through MPPEB's own examination machinery. The Supreme Court transferred the cluster to the CBI in July 2015. CBI courts in Bhopal have convicted accused in batches over the following decade, most recently in December 2025.
